Oliver Arellano-Padilla is a first-year communications Ph.D. student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. He received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and communication from UDEM in Monterrey, Mexico and a master’s degree in transdisciplinary design from Parsons School of Design in New York. His current research is on the phenomenology of ‘luck’ and chance experience mediated by technology as narratives in the consumer culture. He is interested in cultural production and ideology, semiotics, design theories, and material cultures, particularly visual cultures.
