Gabriel Farfan-Mares is the President & General Director of the Mexican Community of Public Management for Results, an independent think tank based in Mexico City which focuses on public finance and sectoral policies. Recently, he has performed as professor of the Department of Economics at Universidad Iberoamericana, consultant of the IADB and Mexico City´s Public Administration School. 

He joined the Mexican public sector in 1995, and has served at a variety of posts at local, state and federal level where outstands his positions as an Economic Advisor to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Budget Director at Mexico’s City Finance Ministry and Adjunct General Director at the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (Undersecretary for Revenues). 

He holds an MA in Political Economy (Georgetown University) and a PhD in Government (London School of Economics). Since 1998, he has been professor of undergraduate and graduate programmes and visiting fellow at varied research centers. He has published Op-Ed & peer reviewed articles at Reforma and El Colegio de México, among other institutions. He is currently preparing a book on the political economy of oil rents in Mexico.
